My expectations were to follow an investment strategy focused on growth as I have no need to use my Sipp. My investments have followed the market.

Due to the expansion of TPO in recent years, decisions which he and I have made had to be reviewed by an independent quality control group in TPO, this caused frustration as the implementation was delayed and I seriously considered leaving TPO. I am pleased that I have retained their services.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

After retirement as a partner in a successful law firm I felt the need for objective and holistic advice from an experienced financial advisor for investment decisions that my well determine the quality of post/retirement life for myself and family.

How has Roger Clarke helped you?

He persuaded me as to the tax advantage of ceasing monthly drawdowns from SIPP funds and more recently he advised on adjusting the focus of SIPP investments.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My wife and I had both retired and we had a range of pension arrangements and various financial investments and assets. We had managed these ourselves whilst in employment and now we needed proper financial advice and management to take us through retirement and to end of life. We had two children to whom we wished to provide some financial support as well.

How has Roger Clarke helped you?

He put together a full financial plan that provided short, medium, and long-term objectives. It was fully aligned to our lifestyle choices and approach to risk. The pensions and investments were harmonised and tax advantages realised. We felt it perfectly matched our objectives and that Roger understood us as people and also, we felt respected. The plan gave us the security we needed whilst recognising nothing is certain, especially where money is concerned.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

So far, absolutely. The plan is working as we imagined. We have some capital secured for three years that we know will not decrease, inflation excepted which is understood. The remainder is in sensible investments.

What could they have done better?

We cannot think of anything that could have been done better at this stage. Both Roger and The Private Office provide sound and professional advice and wealth management that matches our current needs.

He clearly knows his stuff and had a welcome approach to our discussion - he wasn’t in any way aggressive / over-assertive (which can happen in initial discussions of this kind). I was impressed by Roger, and the fact that TPO is a truly independent company. However, what I have in mind is reasonably straightforward. Consequently, I feel that the fee structure you have set out in your booklet is on the high side. At the moment I am comparing the fee proposals of two other IFAs, but have not come to a decision yet. offer a less expensive service.

Finding the right financial adviser is no easy task. With seemingly so many to choose from, there is a great deal at stake if you make a poor choice. Following my discovery of TPO on the internet, I found my initial discussion with Roger nothing other than wholly reassuring. He is completly open and transparent about fees, services that can be offered etc without any sense of obligation. I will shortly be entering the early discovery phase of the process and I can't imagine finding anymore more capable or amiable than Roger to do this with.
