What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I needed advice about the wisdom of merging two frozen pensions and the possibility of moving the respective pensions to get the best return on my investment. As a 51 year old my pensions have gained rather more importance recently!

How has Martin Brennan helped you?

Martin came and met with me and my husband personally in our home. I talked to him about my current situation and the queries I had over my pensions. Martin asked me detailed questions and sent over a variety of questionnaires and surveys to ascertain the level of risk I would be happy with and my understanding of finance. He researched my current pensions and explored the other pensions available and then came back to see me with a detailed report as to my situation and how it could be bettered. His report was clear and concise and I trusted Martin completely. I was happy to combine and transfer both pensions and will see how they progress with the ongoing advice and support of Martin.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

I was given advice and information about my situation, which was what I wanted and will now have to wait and see how the pension progresses!

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I am due to retire and wanted advice about managing my lump sum and two small private pensions.

How has Martin Brennan helped you?

He attended my home for a free initial discussion, then after talking through my circumstances gave me reassurance, some simple advice and the comforting words that he didn’t think I need him! He set my mind at rest, and kindly offered for me to contact him if I had any follow up questions. I had been a little reluctant to speak with a financial advisor, but I was very impressed by his professionalism and approachability.

Yes - reassurance about my overall financial plans.

What could they have done better?

Nothing. Somebody less scrupulous might have taken me on as a client unnecessarily. He listened to who I was and what I wanted from my retirement finances, then advised honestly in line with that.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Im coming to retirement age, and some of my pension pots have been losing a lot of money. I need to decide the best way to move forward in securing my pension pots. I was reluctant at going down the road of getting an advisor, as you hear so many horror stories.

How has Martin Brennan helped you?

Martin really explained things to be, in a manner that was aimed at my level of knowledge. No question was too silly. He has made the whole process easy and 'painless'. He has helped settle my mind, so as to have a clearer understanding of some vitally important steps for my future retirement.

At the moment, I have been able to consolidate my pension pots, (in hopefully a more secure pension account), with a provider who in the future will be able to provide the pension options I will be looking for.

What could they have done better?

Nothing really, some issues have arisen with my old provider, who delayed the process of providing information on my pension pots, but Martin dealt with this for me, and made a complaint.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was retiring at 65 and I needed advice, I logged on to a Government website for local advisors and not overly impressed with most of them for various reasons. It came down to two of them both living very local to me I chose to speak to Martin first because I liked his website and he looked straight forward. I spoke to him and we hit it off immediately so made an appointment for him to come to see me and my wife.

How has Martin Brennan helped you?

I had my company pension when I left and it was a nice surprise to see how good it was and how many options there were for me to consider. That's why you need an advisor to explain the options fully, Martin took the time to help us work out what were our best options and helped understand what we needed for our future. You need to get the balance between the amount of cash you take and the amount of pension you need. He even contacted my employers to check a couple of facts about my pension which turned out to be very beneficial to me and it was nice to know that in is opinion it was a very good pension and felt he couldn't have improved upon it. I also had three smaller pensions which I had collected over a 30 year period with various firms gave all the details to him and found out that there was quite a substantial amount. He advised combining all three into a drawdown type of pension, it has been excellent, and although over the years I have made many withdrawals totalling around £30,000 the performance of the investments have replenished my fund. We have found him always very professional, friendly, and always ready to answer any questions you have if you contact him, we look forward to his annual visit because you know you will get a full update and report of what is going on.

Martin helped me obtain cash from my pension whilst I was going through health problems which meant I have had to stop work temporarily and my salary stopped. I was unable to receive any benefits although I tried, so taking money from my pension was my only option. Of course we are going through a price hike too with all the bills going up, so again, this was a very welcome financial cushion. I don't know what I would have done without this option.

I originally contacted Martin in December 2021 while trying to decide what to do with my recently matured pension fund. My existing pension provider seemed perplexingly disinterested in offering me practical post retirement investment advice and I was at a loss to know what to do for the best.

From the outset Martin has made sense of what financial routes were available to me, patiently explaining any jargon or technicalities I was unsure about. His approach has at all times been professional, unpressurised and customer led, with investment options clearly presented for me to carefully consider before proceeding. His advice has at all times felt unbiased and diligently tailored to my circumstances.

As a result of Martin’s assistance I have chosen an investment vehicle which I feel reassured will provide me with a regular income from a fund that will be competently managed to optimise any potential for additional capital growth. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I decided that with my retirement approaching I needed advice on how my current pensions were performing and what options were available to try and maximise my investments.

How has Martin Brennan helped you?

Martin is very knowledgeable and thorough. He discussed what my retirement plans were then he did some research on my current pensions. It became apparent that they were not set to achieve my desired outcome and some were not achieving what they could have been in the current market. After reviewing all Martin’s advice, I decided to amalgamate them into one policy which was more suited to my needs. Martin did all the paperwork and kept me informed of every stage of the process. Martin has just carried out my first annual pension review, at which he showed me latest reports of my pension's performance over the last 12 months compared with the rest of the market and also how the product itself has compared over a 5 year period. We went through the reports with Martin once again explaining how the investments were broken down, the reasoning behind this and how the Covid situation has impacted investments, showing the trend indicated by the graphs in the report. After this first teview, I am even more confident that I chose the right financial advisor. Martin is knowledgeable, able to explain things in layman's terms and I feel that my pension pot is in good hands. I would have no hesitation in recommending his services.

I was turning 55 and wanted to stop working. I needed an income and had 4 pensions which I wanted to transfer into one policy to drawdown from.

Martin Brennan met with me and my husband to go through exactly what I needed. Martin then went away and did research on my 4 policies and came up with one policy with an ethical investment which I could drawdown from until I reach retirement age and receive my old age pension from the government.

We were first time buyers and didn't really know what the best mortgage deals were.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I recently decided to take early retirement and needed the advice of a financial advisor to decide how best to take my pension. I contacted three advisers and Martin stood out as being the most personable, very knowledgeable and able to put things in a language I easily understood. I felt he would give the most personal service. My only reservation was that being a sole advisor rather than belonging to a larger practice and as I had come to him 'cold' rather than through a recommendation from family or a friend, I didnt know whether to trust my pension funds with him. However, after a good deal of research, checking and following my gut feelings, I decided to use Martin's servives.

How has Martin Brennan helped you?

Martin has been a delight to work with. It is obvious that he has a great knowledge of financial matters including tax efficiency, has worked hard and promptly to move my pension to a company that has historically performed much better and gave illustrated options of my choices going forward. The fees of Martin and the chosen new pension provider are better, too.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

My 'new' pension plan has been put into place, I am looking forward to, hopefully, a long and happy retirement and am quietly confident that I have chosen the right financial adviser. Martin has always been very responsive, 'person-centred', a great listener and has always given a thorough explanation of any advice he is giving, whilst being open to any suggestions I may have had, too.

What could they have done better?

I don't feel that Martin could have done anything better and have been very happy with his services so far.

I’m a novice investor but had a clear idea of my ethical goals in investing the money. Martin assessed my goals and circumstances and clearly explained how he proposed to address these. He then did some detailed research and visited again to talk me through his recommendations and to leave an in depth written document explaining his rationale and how it would all work. At this point he was one of three IFAs I was considering, but his approach and the depth and clarity of his work were well ahead of the two competitors. Having said I wanted to go ahead with his recommendations he gave me all the time I needed to do my own background research before ominous back a third time to do all the paperwork. Once this was complete he moved very quickly to set it all up.
